Amcc
Has a very easy to follow range of products.
- Product brochure - good overview of products and support.
- The 440EP/440EPX has a floating point unit (probably single precision) and operates up to 666Mhz.
- The 460EX is due 2nd quarter of 2008 with a double precision floating point unit and operates up to 1.2Ghz.
FreeScale
- The MPC5xxx series seems to be a good computational unit with embedded double precision.
- Has the very powerful G4 (old apple-mac) with altivec units at about $100 a processor.
Components
- Hardware TCP/IP Module - does the 7 layer tcp wrapper in hardware.
- Image Sensor Module - does the camera's image stream buffering in hardware, results in less interrupts coping with the image stream.
- Altivec Unit - does 128 bit wide floating point calculations. Very fast for matrix calcs.
